Combining fast-paced first-person shooting with a Diablo-like loot system and the deep character customization system of a role-playing game, Gearbox's Borderlands was a surprisingly sophisticated modernization of Doom-era kill-everything-you-see mayhem, and one of 2009's most memorable titles. It got even better thanks to downloadable content releases that ditched the serious tone of the main game's storyline in favor of satirical humor that speared genre conventions and the game's inherent ridiculousness.

Borderlands 2 looks like it'll expand on the formula of the original in all the right places, adding more of just about everything: guns, enemies, environment types, vehicles and characters. Up to this point Gearbox had only been discussing the dual-wielding Gunzerker class, but the trailer below reveals a whole lot more.

From a completely reworked Siren class to the Commando to the ninja-like Assassin, there's a lot to digest in the trailer. Not to worry, we've done it for you.
